Green Day Concert

Oh my goodness. please pardon me for the less than ladylike pining in my last blog entry.

I forgot one of the most important events that happened in melbourne.. the Green Day concert.

Okay here are how the days event panned out:

we left the hotel at 5pm and arrive at 5.07pm - - it was pretty quick actually. by that time, there were already heaps and heaps of people there at the Telstra Dome. Apparently they had been arriving there since 9 am which is TOTALLY INSANE!! as if you would.

We arrived in front of Gate 6 which was the gate we were supposed to enter by.

what i wore to the concert was pretty appropriate because when we arrived about 99.8% of the crowd were dressed in black - black everything. i felt so accepted. hehee. anyways danielle and amanda wore pink shirts and felt a little bit out of place so they decided to go back to the hotel to change. and apparently it only cost them $5 in the cab. how cheap is that!

Anyways BEFORE that, Danielle and I went to go find the end of the line so that we'd get into the queue and just wait till we got in. Saide and Amanda decided to line up in the Official Merchandise line. But i swear to god, we must have walked around the whole of the Telstra Dome twice and still weren't able to find the end of the line, it went on forever!! so we found ourselves back at the front of gate 6 after having walked around the whole dome and then that's when danielle and amanda decided to change their attire. So i stayed with Saide who was still in line for merchandise. anyway saide finally makes her purchase and we go and try to find the end of the line again. by this time, i'm almost ready to go home because it wasn't worth it just walking around the whole time.

but luck was on our side because we found an opening and just slot ourselves in. Basically the guard said, "Everyone raise your hands if you have idiot zone tickets?" [about two-thirds of the crowd raised their hands]. then the guy said, "Well then, youz are all idiots because you're supposed to line up on the other line".

so eureka! we jumped the queue while the commotion was going on and we ended up in the front of the queue in about 10 minutes. I was a bit worried that my camera would get confiscated because we weren't allowed to bring any cameras in at all. But i hid it in my bag and surprisingly dodged security through one of their loop holes. I think because of the mix up with idiot zone tickets and our B zone tickets, the guards got a bit lax. Anyway what i did was - just side step the guard and look out of it or angry or something -- it was the best acting i've ever done. i was a full on EMO kid for those couple of seconds. so yes we got in unscathed and with little trouble at all.

So then it was me and saide there waiting for dani and amanda to come along. it took a while though. so we made our way to the front of the b zone and were pretty close to the stage at the beginning. i think "My Chemical Romance" started at about 7pm or 7.30 and you could hardly hear them. their voices were all muffled and all you could hear was "F" this and "F" that. it was crap. and plus i couldn't see anythign because the people in front of us were so tall. and then my neck started to hurt heahaha. anyway dani and amanda finally arrived to hear the middle of my chemical romance and by that stage, i was less than impressed. i was seriously beginning to want to go home because the music sucked big time.

Danielle thought it was crap as well and so we decided to go out of there for a while and head to the back of the concert to rest for a while. First let me note that i was the only person out of our group that brought a bag so everybody's mobile phones and ids and money were in my bag.

okay so i go out of the mosh pit and stupid me! i forget to give saide and amanda their mobile phones or money or id. danielle and i decided to get something to eat and then made our way back to the concert.

Then Jimmy Eat World came on and they were bad if not even worse than my chemical romance. i could hardly hear anything they said and the sound was just bad - it was all muffled. i think the microphones were not adjusted properly. Anyway it was at this stage that Danielle and I decided we wanted to go home because were weren't into this music in the first place and thought it would be a complete waste of time to hang around. So danielle tried calling saide to tell her we were going... IT was then that we realised that WE HAD THEIR STUFF!

We started freaking out because at this stage, there were so many people packed into the b zone you could hardly squeeze through it. anyway, we each took about 2 to 3 turns to bury ourselves into the mosh pit again to find them but with no such luck. we were STUCK. we COULDN"T LEAVE.

and to add more hardship over this, there was a guy who liked Danielle who was at the concert and Danielle at that time, did not want to hook up with him that night. so we had to dodge him and his brother as well as try find saide and amanda. So - - we couldn't find them so we stuck around till the end fo the concert.

One good thing too see were people doing the mexican wave all around the telstra dome. i took a video of it. hehehe

BUT it turned out to be a great thing for us to stay because Green Day came on stage at about 9pm and OH MY GOD they were awesome. the music was way better, much clearer and they actually opened up the roof of the Telstra Dome. It was speculated that they weren't going to do it because it had been raining a little bit but THEY DID!

So they came on and since Dani and I were sitting atthe back we saw everything and it was great!

Billy is really charismatic and really knows how to work the crowd really well. it was really great. he really got alot of audience input and everyone was singing and everything

they sang all the popular songs from their american idiot album and sang 'hitchin a ride' and 'time of your life'. i think this was their last concerts which were in Australia so Billy kept singing for us.

One cool thing they did was get three people up onto the stage to play with them. First Billy asked for a person who could play the drums - a guy was selected because he had been playing for 4 years and he was pretty good. Then Billy needed a Bass player and he picked a girl who was holding a sign that said, "I play Bass Guitar". and she was awesome!! and then they asked for someone who could play lead guitar. He spent quite a bit of time looking for a person and there were a few guys with "I play guitar" written on paper. it was pretty funny. then he found a guy who said he could play lead guitar really well.

Billy goes, "you know how to play? are you sure? how long have you been playing for?... 4 months??!! Oh my god! Are you sure you know how to play?... okay come on up here".

everyone in the crowd thought this guy was going to bomb. anyway billy gave the guy the chords and he watched Billy play the cords 4 times before he gave it a go and surprisingly the guy who had only played for 4 monhts was pretty good. sure, he had to learn only 3 chords but he was pretty good. so then yeah, we had a band that was made up from the crowd. it was really awesome. and then at end of that, billy gave his aussie guitar to the guy. what a lucky bastard! and then the girl bass player was asked to bomb dive surf etc into the crowd.

Mmm what else, well Billy decided to put his hand down his pants and scream, "Somebody F*ck me". Then he smelt his hand. He then said, "Oh, my god. My hand smells like Death right now". i thought that was funny. and then he showed his butt a couple of times.

and then we had heaps of fireworks and confetti spurted into the air.

and some girl hit me in the head when she was trying to catch some confetti and i screamed "OWWW" really loud. and that was funny though because she was so apologetic. hmm what else.

At the end the concert - we thought we lost saide and amanda - we searched everywhere and danielle wanted to go back inside and wanted to keep moving and i wanted to stay in one place so that we could see them more" but anyway - MIRACULOUSLY we found them just walking casually as if nothing happened. but yes, we were all one group again and then headed home. but we were lucky enough to get a life home with Daniel (Danielle's bf) in his WRX. yay!

So i guess it was a mini blessing that we were forced to stay at the concert or else we'd miss out on the whole experience. that was so ironic!

We arrived back at the hotel at about 1 am

so yes, that was my Green Day experience. It was awesome!
